Smart aircon control and comfort automation in Singapore

Updated

In Singapore, comfort is an aircon problem. How we connect split units and fans to a local system, and the automations that actually save effort.

The aircon is probably the appliance a Singapore home uses most. What people want is simple: cool the room before they arrive, ease off once they are asleep, and switch everything off when the last person leaves. We connect your units to a local system so those things happen on their own.

How we connect an aircon

  • Infrared control for common split units. It needs no change to the aircon and moves with you, but it is one-way, so the system cannot be sure the unit received the command.
  • Manufacturer adapters where the brand offers one, which read back mode, set temperature and state. Support depends on the brand and model.
  • Sensors to check reality. A room temperature and humidity sensor, or a device that measures power draw, so automations act on the real condition.

For the trade-offs in detail, read our guide to smart aircon control.

Automations worth setting up

  • Pre-cool the living room when you are nearly home.
  • Raise the temperature a degree or two after bedtime, or switch off at a set hour.
  • Pause the aircon while a window or balcony door is open.
  • Switch off a room's aircon after no one has been there for a while.
  • Control each indoor unit separately in a multi-split system.

Common questions

Will it work with my aircon brand?

Most common split units can be controlled by infrared. Whether a wired adapter exists depends on the brand and model, so we check yours first.

Does adding a controller affect the warranty?

Infrared controllers do not touch the unit. For wired adapters, confirm with the manufacturer or your aircon installer before fitting one, including any effect on the warranty.

Does it work without the internet?

On a local system, yes. Schedules and automations run on the controller in your home. Some adapters work only through the manufacturer's cloud app, so check this before buying.

Next step

Tell us the brand and model of each indoor unit and where it sits in the room.
